ABOUT CHRISTINE ARENA

Christine is a twenty-year public relations and advertising industry professional and founder of social impact production company Generous Films. Her creative client work has been accepted to more than 50 film festivals and recently won six industry awards – including 2023 Anthem Gold and Silver Awards, the 2023 Sabre Award for best documentary film, the 2023 PR Week Brand Film Award, the 2022 Sabre Award for outstanding branded journalism and Ragan’s PR Daily Award for a cause-related marketing campaign.

Christine is also an author, expert witness and climate accountability advocate who communicates extensively on the impacts of climate misinformation and greenwash to national and global audiences. Her June 2023 testimony before the Senate Committee on the Budget identified the modern disinformation tactics used by the fossil fuel industry to keep society hooked on oil and gas. Her September 2022 Congressional testimony before the Committee on Natural Resources explored the role of PR firms in blocking climate action and signaled the need for urgent reform across the advertising and public relations industry. She currently serves on the advisory board of The Institute for Advertising Ethics where she is helping to produce social science-based, anti-greenwash standards and educational resources for industry practitioners.

Christine is the producer of a number of independent film productions that counter misinformation. In 2018, she created and launched "Let Science Speak," a six-part docuseries that aired exclusively on The Weather Channel and served to diffuse anti-science narratives. In 2020, she produced and launched "When the Earth Moves," an Earth Day-themed short film which sought to neutralize political polarization and build bi-partisan support for climate action. In 2021, she helped launch Clean Creatives, a pressure campaign to encourage PR and ad firms to cease their work with fossil fuel clients. In 2022, she appeared in TIME Studio’s and Darren Aronofsky’s feature film "Black Gold," alongside former Vice President Al Gore and other notable climate accountability leaders. Her insights have recently been featured by Rolling Stone, CNBC, The Washington Post, The New York Times, TIME, Reuters, The Guardian and Adweek.
